Bring Your Prints to Life with Premium Effects

At Sharp Digitals, we go beyond standard printing. Our effects library helps you create designs that shine, stand out, and demand attention. Explore:

1) UV Coating

UV coating is a clear liquid layer added on top of printed designs, then cured with ultraviolet light. It makes selected areas either shiny (gloss UV) or smooth and elegant (matte UV). For example, you can highlight a logo on a business card with gloss UV so it pops out when tilted under light. UV coating not only enhances looks but also adds a protective layer against scratches and smudges. It is one of the most affordable and effective ways to give printed material a professional finish.

2) Raised UV

Raised UV is similar to UV coating but applied in a thicker layer so it is physically raised above the surface. When you touch the print, you can feel the texture. Designers use this effect to make brand names, logos, or patterns more noticeable. Imagine running your fingers across a product label and feeling the raised design – it immediately gives the sense of premium quality. Raised UV is often used on packaging, invitations, and labels to combine visual impact with a luxury feel.

3) Foil Stamping

Foil stamping is a process where a thin metallic film, usually in gold or silver, is pressed onto the print using heat and pressure. It creates a shiny, reflective finish that looks rich and elegant. Businesses often use foil for their brand names, product titles, or decorative borders. Foil stamping works especially well for luxury packaging, wedding cards, or certificates where the impression of premium quality is important. Besides gold and silver, many custom foil colors are available today, including red, green, and holographic foils.

4) Raised Foil

Raised Foil is the combination of Raised UV and Foil Stamping. It not only shines but also gives a raised, tactile feel. This dual effect makes logos and names stand out visually and physically. For instance, on a cosmetic product label, the brand name can appear shiny and slightly elevated above the surface, creating a memorable first impression. Raised Foil gives a sense of exclusivity and is a favorite for high-end branding projects.

5) Scodix

Scodix is a digital enhancement technology that applies spot UV, foil, and other effects with very high precision. Unlike traditional methods, it allows even small text and intricate designs to be enhanced without errors. With Scodix, designers can achieve creative textures, patterns, and finishes in one run. It is widely used in premium print projects like brochures, luxury packaging, and wedding invites. Scodix makes prints interactive, adding a “touch and feel” experience that leaves a lasting impact.

6) Met PET Printing

Met PET (Metalized Polyester) printing creates a metallic look that is shiny, reflective, and durable. Unlike standard paper printing, Met PET adds a special effect that makes packaging look premium and attention-grabbing. It resists moisture, heat, and scratches, making it ideal for industries like cosmetics, food, and beverages. For example, a shampoo label or a chocolate wrapper printed on Met PET will have a luxurious metallic finish that stands out on store shelves.

7) Clear-on-Clear Printing

Clear-on-Clear printing uses transparent material where only the design is visible, making it look like the design is printed directly on the surface. For example, on a glass bottle, the artwork appears as part of the bottle itself, giving a modern, minimalistic look. It is widely used in cosmetics and beverages where clean, elegant packaging is needed. These prints are also durable and resistant to moisture, ensuring long-lasting appeal.

8) Aqueous Coating

Aqueous coating is a water-based coating applied to the entire surface of a printed sheet. It dries quickly, is eco-friendly, and adds protection against fingerprints, scuffs, and smudges. Unlike UV coating, which is used for spot effects, aqueous coating usually covers the full page. It comes in finishes like gloss, matte, or satin. For example, magazines often use aqueous coating to give pages a smooth, protective layer. It is also food-safe, making it suitable for packaging used in the food industry.
